The Lay Ministries Program in the Diocese of Fort Worth began in 1977 with 125 persons completing a 3 year program. It reported its last "official" meeting in April of 1990 with 325 graduates. Lay Ministries was "reborn" as Ministries Outreach that year, thanks to the desires and financial backing of the persons who had benefited by the program.

In 1993, PARTNERS IN MINISTRY, the current version of the Lay Ministries Program, began as a one-year program for anyone in the Diocese who desired spiritual and educational grounding in Catholicism. Each year the program has attracted a large number of participants, having an average of 65 "graduates "over the last 5 years. ("Graduates" is always used by us in quotation marks, because who can "graduate from MINISTRY?" -- life-long commitment, life-long witness to the Presence of the Christ.)

This story is worthy of note. To our knowledge it is the only Lay Ministry Program in the nation, which is totally supported by the laity. Thank you, Everyone!!!
