GOODBYE ELEANOR,

DEPARTURE WAS UNANNOUNCED AND UNEXPECTED . LEAVING A NEED TO SAY SOMETHING, EVEN IN THIS CASE, INADEQUATE.  We will miss the wit and wisdom Eleanor so often shared on Tuesday Mornings.  She like all of us in various ways drew from its 10 0’clock well of wisdom and returned her own insights.  The sharing , support and sometimes lively debate nourishes all of us and meant much to her.  We used to marvel at how we saw an enlarged picture of the world, the Universe and our Church never dreamed of before we had an opportunity to see it in a new light.

Eleanors was an inquiring mind that inspired learning more and avoiding the mundane that so easily carries us forward without effort.  Best of all, she enjoyed a joke, she could understand the depth of our “ignorance” as we struggled with our of our usual ways of learning  from minds like O’Murchu et.al. without judging us hopeless.

For me who had no sisters, Eleanor filled a spot I didn’t know was empty.  In many ways, but some of our adventures in Iran (which never could have happened

without Tom ‘s being driver and navigator.)gives an example.  In what seemed remote village area, stuck on a railroad track, one of those “how did this happen” moments unfolded.  Our little VW Bug awaited the inevitable rescue.  In a totally empty countryside helpful locals emerged full of advice, and actual assistance.  They picked up the impaled insect, tenderly placed her on the other side of the track and gave instruction on returning to the main road.  Eleanor was unflappable, I somewhat less so, and we have shared many such memories in retrospect with others.  To us it confirmed the basic good in so called “ignorant peasants” and the reality of Guardian Angels!

Not a traditional tribute to a friend we miss, but a heartfelt expression how good it was she was in various ways part of our lives.  “Thanks for the Memories Eleanor, as you head into the next adventure and we await our turns!

LOVE, TOM AND PEG AND ALL WHO LOVED AND APPRECIATED YOU ON TUESDAY MORNINGG.
